Located 4 miles south of Flagler Beach, this scenic State Park is ideal for observing gulls, terns and shorebirds along its unspoiled beach. Sea turtles (mostly Loggerheads) also nest here. To reach the beach, park on the east side of A1A, just north of the intersection with High Bridge Rd. and take the wheelchair accessible dune crossover. Florida Scrub-Jays have not been sighted at the park in recent years but if you do spot one please call (386) 517-2086. The drive between Bulow Creek State Park and this park along Walter Boardman Rd. and High Bridge Rd. is quite scenic. Another access point is the Smith’s Creek Landing entrance on High Bridge Rd. (just east of the drawbridge), which has an observation platform providing opportunity to view waterbirds, woodpeckers and songbirds. The marsh has been restored in this area and provides a great opportunity to observe wading birds. From this parking area you may also take the Coastal Strand Trail, which runs northward through coastal strand and maritime hammock. This portion of the park west of A1A is home to bobcats, as well as Indigo Snakes and Gopher Tortoises. 30 species of butterfly have been recorded including Southern Oak Hairstreak, Red-banded Hairstreak, Phaon Crescent, and Great Southern White.
