Audubon Christmas Bird Count at Corkscrew

Date: Saturday, December 14, 2019

Time: 6:30am – 6:30pm

Description:
This year marks the 120th annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC), the longest-running community science project in the world. The Corkscrew Count Circle area is one of over 2000 Count Circles from many countries in the western hemisphere that participate each year.

This year’s Corkscrew CBC will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019.

The Corkscrew CBC Count Circle is divided up into eleven team areas. There is a team captain in charge of each team who decides the plan and the start time for the team. Most teams meet to start in the parking lot of the Blair Audubon Center. All teams come back to the classroom of the Blair Center at the end of the day to drop off their data forms or to stay for the Round up Dinner, when we begin compiling all of the data from each team.

Participants do not have to be expert birders to participate, there is usually a mix of experience levels on each team. The CBC is a great way for beginning birders to become more knowledgeable about the birds and their habitats.

This circle is open to accepting participants from the general public, interested participants should contact Sally Stein, Corkscrew CBC Compiler, at sstein@audubon.org for more information and to register.
