Birding at Little Big Econ State Forest (Oviedo)

February 20, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

Flanking the banks of the Econlockhatchee River, a ribbon of wilderness protects a swath of forest edged on one side by suburbia, on the other by ranchland. It is the Little Big Econ State Forest, more than 5,000 acres of uplands and cypress swamps along this floodplain river, a sinuous waterway with tall bluffs and many tributaries.

The bird count from this hike will be submitted to the Great Backyard Bird Count 2021.

This is a moderate to difficult hike. No restroom facilities are available on site. Please bring water, snack, insect repellent, and sunscreen. There is a 2.00 per person Florida State Forest Day Use Fee. This can be paid at the parking area via smart phone or online at https://floridastateforests.reserveamerica.com/posProductDetails.do?id=5601&contractCode=FLFS . Paying with cash is NOT an option at this trailhead.

Please contact Leslie Martin at woodstork.martin@gmail.com for any questions and to register for field trip.

For safety of participants, we will be following CDC guidelines and local COVID-19 orders regarding social distancing and the wearing of masks.
