Cruickshank Sanctuary Field Trip (Rockledge)

November 27, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Event Link:

Join Jim Stahl and Charlie Venuto for a limited participant bird walk Saturday, November 76, 2021 at Helen and Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary.

Acquired in partnership with the State of Florida, the Helen and Allan Cruickshank Sanctuary is part of the sanctuary network established by the Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program. Formerly a turpentine mine and farm, the 140-acre sanctuary located in Rockledge, Florida is now home to a pine flatwoods habitat where raptors can be spotted circling overhead or perched in high pine trees- Patches of oak, sand pine scrub, and freshwater depression marshes add to the Sanctuary’s diversity as well. Cruikshank Sanctuary is the place for Florida’s Scrub-Jay. You are almost certain to see several families of Jays on the property.

We will be looking for Florida Scrub-Jays and other resident birds. This site has 149 species reported in eBird overall with over 40 species so far in the months of September and October.

We will meet at 9:00 am at the parking lot at 326 Barnes Blvd, Rockledge.

Recommend you wear comfortable closed-toe shoes, long pants, long sleeve shirt, and a hat and bring water and bug spray.
