Speaker: Leslie Kemp Poole, PhD. Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.

Dr. Poole’s presentation will center on the role of women in Florida’s 20th century environmental movement. Women were saving birds, creating parks, improving forestry, and working to beautify cities even before they could vote.

An award-winning journalist and historian, Poole’s work focuses on how women used grassroots actions in order to create change in the state and protect its natural resources. A fourth-generation Floridian, Poole has lived in Winter Park for more than three decades, raising her family and engaging in a variety of community work.
