If you’re in the area visiting Ochlockonee River State Park, check out this small city park on the Sopchoppy River. Walk the boardwalk and look carefully for Barred Owls, Yellow-crowned Night-herons and Prothonotary Warblers (summer). Hike the short trail to the left side of the property to see Summer Tanager, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, White-eyed Vireo and Yellow-billed Cuckoos in spring and summer, as well as Mississippi and Swallow-tailed Kites circling overhead. Resident Eastern Bluebirds can be found around the picnic area and in winter Chipping Sparrows and Eastern Phoebes are present. This site has a busy boat launch (weekends); paddlers can launch a canoe or kayak from this spot to explore the river more extensively.
