On Saturday, September 26th, Orange Audubon Society education chair and avid birder Kathy Rigling (and friends) will lead an Orange Audubon Society Limited Edition Field Trip to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, the extraordinary 140,000-acre refuge near Titusville.
At this time of year, we may see a variety of ducks, grebes, American White Pelican, Glossy Ibis, Roseate Spoonbill, Sora, American Coot, Black Skimmer, gulls, terns and some shorebirds, including American Avocets.
Limited Edition Field Trips are limited to 15 people. Face masks and staying 6’ apart at all times are required. Cost is $10 per person per trip for members and $15 per person for non-members. Also, fee to visit Black Point Wildlife Drive is now $10 per car. The group will decide (and road conditions will determine) whether we go through Black Point or go on other roads.
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Parrish Park over the bridge in Titusville and caravan to locations in the refuge from there. Bring water and snacks.
Reservations are required and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis the week prior to the trip. Contact Kathy at (407) 488-9559.
