EagleWatch: Monitoring Bald Eagle Nests in FL (Virtual – No Attendee Limit)

May 21, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Audubon Florida’s EagleWatch Program is a statewide network of community science volunteers who monitor Bald eagle nests from October to May. EagleWatch provides valuable information on nesting activity and the current trends of the Bald Eagle population in Florida. The data collected by volunteers is compiled to document eagle nest productivity and is used by both the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to enhance their conservation and law enforcement efforts. EagleWatch Program Manager, Shawnlei Breeding, will share updates on the status of the Bald Eagle population in Florida, the history of EagleWatch Program and how you can help protect Bald Eagles in your area!

Meet Our Presenter: Shawnlei Breeding is the Audubon EagleWatch Program Manager. Shawnlei began her career as a non-profit administrator before switching gears to pursue her dream of working with animals. She came to Audubon in 2016 from Disney’s Animal Kingdom where she was a Bird Keeper at their Avian Research Center. She has a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma and a M.S. in Conservation Biology from the University of Central Florida. Her office is at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, FL where she also gets to work with their collection of ambassador raptors. In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors, listening to live music and spending time with her husband, Steve, and their pets.
