Although mainly recreation-oriented, this park offers boardwalks and trails around the lake that provide great views of herons and egrets, anhingas and ibises (White and Glossy). A short nature trail is worth the trip to check the quieter hammock area for skulkers such as vireos and warblers, particularly during spring and fall migrations. Also check the fragrance garden in spring for Neotropical migrants. A spring/early summer visit will reveal a very active rookery on the islands within the lake. An excellent venue for digiscoping photography — herons, egrets, ibises and anhingas raise their young here, unconcerned with the hubbub of the park.
