Situated on the shore of Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve, this park offers a mile of coastal trail as well as over 2 miles of trails into pine flatwoods. Scan the beach from overlooks along the Bayside Trail for shorebirds such as Least and Western Sandpipers. Watch the open water during winter months for Common Loons and Red-breasted Mergansers. Five different tern species have been recorded here, and Magnificent Frigatebirds sometimes occur. Migration brings hungry warblers and vireos to the wax myrtles, and swifts and swallows fly by. Trails through the flatwoods will provide views of Red-shouldered Hawks, breeding Pine Warblers and several different woodpeckers. Be sure to look up for soaring Bald Eagles, and keep an eye out for Wood Ducks, which have nested on the property. Educational classes, guided nature and bird walks and a variety of other nature-based programs are offered throughout the year; call ahead for details.
