Have A Safe Adventure
The Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail is your guide to great birding and other watchable wildlife opportunities around the state. Make your adventure a safe and enjoyable experience by following these helpful tips.

Dress For Success
The right clothing can make quite a difference. Look for quick dry fabrics that block the sun. For areas without paved trails consider long pants, and close-toed shoes. Long sleeves, although hotter, can help with biting insects. In warmer months, a hat with a brim is a good idea.

Gear Up And Bring Water
Be sure you remember your binoculars, camera, field guide, backpack, insect repellent, etc. Bring water with you. Snacks are also a good idea, but water is important. If you plan to be out for a long time, hydration packs are a good way to carry sufficient water with you.

Know Where You Are
Many areas have downloadable trail maps. If possible, download them before leaving your home. Sometimes the only maps are displayed on kiosks. Taking a picture with your phone is a great way to take it with you.

Communicate
Let someone know where you are going, especially if going solo. If plans change, text updates. Be sure your phone’s battery will last, if not bring a battery charger. Not all areas have strong cell phone signal. Many new phones can make emergency calls via satellite. Check if your phone has this ability and set it up prior to needing it.
