A. D. Barnes Park
This site is an oasis for migrant songbirds in urban Miami; 30+ species of wood-warbler have been recorded including Bay-breasted, Canada, Connecticut, Cerulean, Golden-winged, Nashville, and Wilson’s. The park is famous for attracting rarities and in recent years Brown-crested Flycatcher, Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher, Philadelphia Vireo, Cuban Grassquit, and Western Tanager have been found by local birders. Other species to be on the lookout for include Short-tailed Hawk, White-crowned Pigeon, Gray Kingbird, the occasional Black-whiskered Vireo, and Painted Buntings. For the best birding head to the nature center and woods on the park’s north side. A paved path and wheelchair-accessible canopy platform wind through oak hammock, providing good views of migrant songbirds in spring/fall. This park is a must visit during spring and fall migration.
