Eagle Lakes Community Park
Over 220 species of birds have been recorded at this well-known local hotspot. Behind the ball fields, track, and eutrophic holding pond, you will find a berm system around two very productive water reclamation ponds which host Green-winged Teal, Lesser Scaup, and American Bittern during winter. Look for Bald Eagle, Short-tailed Hawk and Ospreys year-round and Swallow-tailed Kites between spring and fall. Native plantings surrounding these ponds attract a good variety of songbirds; 20+ species of wood-warbler including Canada and Nashville. Painted Buntings are present during the winter as well as sparrows like Grasshopper and Swamp. Rarities are often found and in recent years Eurasian Wigeon, Swainson’s Hawk, Western Kingbird, and Scissor-tailed Flycatcher have been spotted. This site is a must visit for birders who live in or are visiting Collier County.
