Falling Creek Falls
This property is a splendid little gem complete with mesic, wet and scrubby flatwoods and a lowland hardwood forest along Falling Creek. From the parking area follow the paved path past the historic structure towards the forest. Take the elevated boardwalk (wheelchair friendly) and enjoy the view of the creek’s “whitewater.” A 10-foot waterfall (during normal water levels) creates rapids which are scarce in Florida. En-route look skyward for Red-shouldered Hawks and Swallow-tailed Kites (summer), and songbird migrants during the fall. Resident species include Carolina Chickadee, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Pine Warbler and Northern Cardinal. While birding is at its best during spring and fall migration, this spot is good at any time of year especially for families looking for an enjoyable stroll and pleasant picnic.
