Fern Forest Nature Center
This 244-acre natural area is a birder’s delight with freshwater swamps, prairies and hardwood hammocks to explore. Part of the historical Cypress Creek Transverse glade, it is home to 34 species of fern, and over 120 species of birds have been recorded. Painted Buntings winter here and migrants like Indigo Bunting, Scarlet Tanager and Eastern Wood-pewee can be found in spring and fall; over 25 species of wood-warbler have been recorded in the park including Connecticut, Bay-breasted and Cape May. An on-site nature center offers excellent programs and there is a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk.
