Linda Pedersen Park

This county-owned site on Jenkins Creek is ideal for birders and families. Check the brackish marsh for Wood Stork, Great Egret, and Tricolored Heron, as well as songbird species like Marsh Wren, Swamp Sparrow, and Red-winged Blackbird. From the main parking area, a footbridge over the creek leads to a 40-foot observation tower with a superb view of the marsh and the Gulf of America. Watch for fly-bys of typical coastal birds like Laughing Gull and listen for wintering Virginia Rails and resident Clapper Rails as well as the rattling call of Belted Kingfishers. The hardwood hammock is a haven for a variety of migratory songbirds; check the trees during spring and fall for Blue Grosbeak, Common Yellowthroat and Northern Parula. Manatees are often present and great photographs can be taken from the walkway. Across the road, the adjacent Jenkins Creek Park has a canoe/kayak launch and a fishing/observation pier.
