Pine Glades Natural Area

Green Heron head shot by Ann Mathews

Located just six miles west of the Florida Turnpike in Jupiter Farms, this 6,651-acre wetland wonderland attracts colorful wading birds including Roseate Spoonbills, Tricolored Herons and Limpkins. The natural area protects cypress swamps, freshwater marshes, wet prairies and uplands dominated by majestic slash pine trees. Early morning visitors can hear the sharp, whistled notes of the Northern Bobwhite quail, and Eastern Meadowlarks, Florida Sandhill Cranes and Snail Kites are common year-round. Look for Blue-winged Teal and King Rail in fall and spring. This is also one of the best places in Palm Beach County to view a sunset and one of the few places left in south Florida where you can see fireflies in the spring and summer months. Public use facilities include a kayak launch area, fishing pier, observation platform, and more than seven miles of walking and hiking trails.
