Rotary Park at Suntree
At the junction of U.S. Hwy 1 and Suntree Boulevard, this 10.36-acre community river park is situated on the shore of the Indian River Lagoon. The large pavilion includes restrooms, barbeque pits, and an expansive river view. Birders have opportunities to see waders and shorebirds feeding along the shoreline. Least Terns and Black Skimmers are possible. Check the hardwoods for woodpeckers and migrant passerines. Winter brings Savannah and Chipping Sparrows, plus flocks of Tree Swallows. A small sheltered bay harbors wintering ducks such as Lesser Scaup, American Wigeon and Northern Pintail, as well as Common Loons and Horned Grebes. Bring a spotting scope and scan from shore, or try the 140-foot fishing pier, which juts out into the Indian River. Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins (and occasionally West Indian Manatees) may be spotted from the pier.
